A Daily Scene in Gimbel's Department Store - Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There is a fascinating book on the Jewish women of Wisconsin and their sense of dress. It occurred in New York City also - the need to dress with hats and clothing to show that they were not "greenhorns" even if it meant going without several lunches during lunch breaks to purchase up-to-date outfits.
